2. Objectives of the Practice   

  • To emphasise improving teacher preparation, changing the current test system, and early childhood care, and reorganising the educational regulatory environment in line with the NEP 2020 policy that calls for changes in education at every level, from elementary school to higher education.   
  • To provide an understanding of the subject matter and its application.   
  • To help students understand the subject and score well in examinations.   
  • To provide an understanding and application of technical subjects in the current market scenario.   
  • To arouse curiosity among students towards science subjects, helping students prepare projects and presentations on the same.   
  • To create awareness regarding human values and positive thinking.    
  • To prepare good human beings.   
  • To assist shape their futures and contribute to their personal development by giving them knowledge, skills, and direction.  
  • To provide a platform to students that help them in visiting the high-tech laboratories of Mewar University. 

3. The Context   

Due to the challenges connected with the rural India, high-quality education has mostly been absent from rural and geographically challenging areas. The NEP 2020 offers promise for filling the gap that has been left in these sectors. Mentor Prakalp Schemeis an initiative to contribute towards social welfare measures in line with NEP 2020 in which Mewar University has come forward to enhance the knowledge of school students of nearby villages. Some Government schools are identified to provide special classes in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The schools for this purpose are Suwaniya, Bassi, Arniyapanth, Sawa, Putholi, Nagri, Awalheda, Semalpura, and Chogawadi. All the schools are in a diameter of 20 km around the Campus. Mentor Prakalp Scheme helps students who do not have access to high-quality education. So, it provides them an opportunity to enhance their qualities and have a great impact on their life. Mentor Prakalp Scheme is making a difference by working with students who do not have as much access to high-quality education in rural areas. The practice allows the university to provide a chance of impacting students' lives. This scheme is satisfying a vital Need as there is a shortage of skilled teachers in rural areas. It helps to solve the deficit and closes a critical educational gap by sending dedicated teachers to rural government schools. The presence and knowledge of the teachers help to raise the standard of education in these areas overall creating Stronger Communities: Working in rural locations gives the chance to integrate fully into the community which in turn build trusting relationships with student.  

4. The Practice   

To meet the objectives of the Mentor Prakalp selected faculty members from Mewar University visit these schools every Saturday and take classes. Further to help in preparing for board examinations, mock tests are conducted for these schools' students. Moreover, based on their academic and professional preferences, counselling programs are created to assist students in selecting the best career route. It is a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the potential job alternatives based on knowledge, skills, information, and experience. Mentor Prakalp Scheme helps the students studying in the rural govt. by providing them the knowledge, information, skills, and experience necessary to identify career options, and narrow them down to make one career decision so that they can become responsible and successful parts of society in the future. Mewar University is established in a remote area where most of the students studying in the nearby vicinity  are less aware of modern technology and skill education. So, this scheme is very beneficial to the students in these areas. Mentor Prakalp Scheme helps in imparting high-quality education as qualified teachers who teach at the University have the skills and knowledge necessary to provide students with a high-quality education. They can convey ideas, use a variety of teaching techniques, and modify their strategies to meet the unique learning requirements of pupils. This enhances rural students' overall educational experiences and academic performance Improvement. There is scope for better learning as the students are taken to the various laboratories of Mewar University as a result, pupils might get better marks, develop their reading comprehension and critical thinking abilities, and raise their likelihood of going on to further education which subsequently leads them to a brighter future. As a result of teachers who are competent and passionate about what they do, there is increased motivation and engagement among pupils in rural areas. Due to the challenges of rural education and the opportunity to deal with varied student demographics, teaching in rural schools can be a rewarding career choice for educators looking to advance their knowledge and skills. This experience has the potential to improve teachers' skills, increase their comprehension of students' needs, and widen educators' viewpoints. Rural educators frequently develop close relationships with their students, their families, and the larger community. Between instructors, students, and the community, these connections can promote a sense of trust, cooperation, and support.  

5. Evidence of Success   

Feedback from the students suggests that they have better clarification and undertaking on Science and Mathematics subjects taught by Mewar University faculties. Their concept is far clearer. Students have started scoring better marks in Science and Mathematics subjects. The results of the past five years show a clear increase in the overall passing percentage of students in the 10th and 12th grades which signifies the output of this practice. Moreover, Heads of the various schools invite the Mewar University faculties which shows that the students at the government schools are getting benefited by the teaching of Mewar University Faculty. Mentor Prakalp Scheme has led to improved academic performance. The results in some schools have gone to 100% which is a clear indication of the positive effect of the Mentor Prakalp Scheme. Mewar University faculty provide skilled and quality education and create supportive learning environments due to which students are more likely to stay in school, complete their education, and graduate which in turn leads to higher graduation rates and thus contributes to individual success and community development. Students are aspired to pursue higher education which involves the community development of education in the rural areas and is a great indicator of success. More than 3000 school students from nearby districts have visited university and 250 schools have been been visited by Mewar University to provide career counseling.

6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required   

To solve the different issues in rural education, adequate money is needed. This includes providing integrating technology, providing transportation, and covering the entire operating expenses of rural schools. Resources are required to provide curriculum materials that are appropriate for rural students' needs, goals, and cultural backgrounds. 

From time-to-time students from government and private schools are brought to the university campus and all laboratories are opened for them. They are guided on how tests and experiments should be conducted. To encourage them further University distributes awards and prizes to meritorious students.  

 7.Notes

  Mentor Prakalp scheme is more of fulfilling a social responsibility as it is a way of contributing to the development of society. Teachers actively contribute to the social advancement of marginalized populations by exchanging knowledge, abilities, and experiences with pupils in remote areas.
